About us

Young plant production with the highest quality standards and exclusive varieties

The name Volmary stands for the highest quality in the field of young plant production and the distribution of high-quality seeds for professional horticulture. Our top priority is high-quality young plant production. We produce as sustainably and resource-efficiently as possible.

We are aware of our responsibility towards nature and fulfil this responsibility at all our locations. At our mother plant locations in Kenya and Turkey, we produce good, vital and, above all, healthy starting material from unrooted cuttings (URC). And we only sell seeds that have been checked and analysed to meet our high quality standards. Coupled with optimum cultivation management, these are the cornerstones for the best quality of our young plants.

We are also sustainable when it comes to pest control. Here we monitor the crop and can thus reduce the use of chemical pesticides as much as possible. This is because early intervention in the event of an infestation, with natural measures such as the use of beneficial insects and Multikraft®, helps the plant in an ecological way and strengthens it at the same time.

We also use state-of-the-art technology in our young plant production. For example, we use LED lighting and a computerised quality assurance system in our young plant production. This is the only way we can guarantee that we produce plants of Volmary quality in every greenhouse.

The centre of our young plant production is located in Senden (NRW). Here, too, we show our responsibility towards nature and use advanced systems for renewable energy and water production on an area of more than 5 hectares. We also impress with our highly efficient logistics, which are customised to our partners. This means that our young plants are sent to our partners reliably and in the shortest possible time and delivered safely. In this way, we guarantee the highest quality standards and thus also ideal conditions for safe and successful further cultivation.

Certifications speak for our success

Thanks to our wide range of measures, we have been able to continuously drive forward and expand our sustainable and partly organic production. For example, our herb and vegetable production in Selm is now certified organic and is therefore ready for theproduction of certified organic young plants.

Furthermore, our location for mother plants in Kenya is now Fairtrade-certified. Here, we are committed to fair working conditions, environmental protection and the promotion of local communities, thus making a further contribution to a more sustainable and socially balanced future.

As plant professionals, our roots are deeply anchored in horticulture and are widely ramified. This is why we are also very successful internationally in various areas with our locations and plant breeding companies. We are not only a leading company in the production of young plants, but also in plant breeding thanks to our experience, since 1925. Here, too, we are a strong and reliable partner for commercial horticulture. And we support our co-operation partners with innovative concepts in the area of plant brands and plant marketing. We also set standards for marketing in the garden centre trade and for the food retail trade. Our expertise and strengths lie in the following areas:

Of course, we ensure that all the species and varieties we produce are of the usual high Volmary quality. To this end, all of our new varieties undergo several years of testing - in our greenhouses, on our trial fields and in practice when grown in nurseries. This allows us to gather important information about plant health, weather resistance and the nature of the new varieties, as well as many other aspects of cultivation and ecological and qualitative details. We only launch new varieties on the market and offer them to our customers after positive test results for outdoor and bedding suitability. Thanks to these tests, we are also able to make important and practical cultivation recommendations.

Transparency and Trust

We offer our customers the opportunity to take a close look at our product range live and under real conditions. This is possible thanks to our large trial and display fields at the Kaldenhof. This is because we plant large parts of our assortment in these fields every year and can therefore test and observe our plants under real weather conditions. Every year, we invite our customers to various events at the Kaldenhof so that they can see the Volmary quality for themselves. These invitations to our exhibitions and events such as:

  • the Volmary Spring Flowering Day in March
  • the Volmary Bedding Plant Days in May
  • the Volmary Kaldenhof® Days in August

and convince themselves of the unique Volmary quality directly on site. This transparency and pure trust in our plants has also ensured that our customers have relied on us since 1925.

We support our customers with an innovative product range, personalised service and a partnership-based approach. Sustainability, accompanied by appropriate certifications such as EU organic or FairTrade, as well as measures and social responsibility for society are the way forward for us.

We are proud of our independence, which has allowed us to act in accordance with our own guiding principles since 1925. The company is managed by the owner family. Our knowledge and experience are our strength. The management is organised with flat hierarchies in dynamic, multinational teams. This enables us to tackle the diverse, international tasks with a great deal of personal responsibility and enthusiasm for our projects. Our employees are our most valuable asset. Their well-being and that of their families is important to us. Plants are our passion and in order to successfully fulfil our tasks in the long term, we are dependent on steady growth with reliable profits.
